SETTING: Secret 1955 underground laboratory: concrete walls, pipes, copper coils, vacuum tubes, analog gauges, Bakelite switches, mechanical levers, radar screens and blinking incandescent bulbs. Circular atomic teleportation platform at center. A small 1950s-style alien stands on the platform: oversized gray-green practical-prosthetic head, large dark eyes, silver lamé spacesuit, bubble helmet, holding an exaggerated chrome ray gun with glass tube, antenna and glowing red bulb. Three tin-can robots activate: silver riveted bodies, cylindrical heads, glowing bulb eyes, antennae, accordion arms, metal claws and heavy feet. CLANK... CLANK... CLANK. Jack protects Helen as they retreat. The robots advance. The alien raises its ray gun and fires once. ZZZAP! A red-orange vintage optical ray hits one robot. Practical sparks and smoke erupt; it crashes heavily to the floor. Suddenly the teleportation machine activates by itself. Gauges jump, vacuum tubes glow and electrical arcs crackle. The alien becomes frightened and aims at the portal. JACK: “What is it?” Luminous smoke fills the platform. A mysterious second 1950s alien silhouette begins materializing, showing a huge head, bubble helmet and chrome ray weapon. The remaining robots turn toward it. Helen moves behind Jack.
